Comeback Yoga

At Comeback Yoga we are removing barriers and making yoga accessible to the entire military community. We go to where our students are and where they already feel comfortable.

From drill floors to mountain tops, Comeback Yoga is there.

OUR VISION: We envision a world where military service members and their families have the tools and support they need for healthy, resilient living before, during, and after their service, enhancing their own lives and the lives of those in the communities in which they live.

OUR MISSION: Comeback Yoga provides free, accessible, trauma-informed, science-based yoga classes to the military community to enhance overall health and quality of life.

Comeback Yoga is a Denver-based 501(c)3 non-profit that delivers free yoga classes to help military personnel, their families and supporters develop resiliency in response to their life experience that may include post-traumatic stress. Comeback Yoga also provides relevant master teacher training for its teachers to enable them to offer yoga classes best suited to the military community.  Comeback Yoga's other mission is to offer scholarships for Yoga Teacher Training to veterans, active duty, and their partners who are interested in becoming yoga teachers themselves.

Comeback Yoga offers in-person classes across Colorado in military-focused locations such as: the Eastern Colorado VA Healthcare System, VFW Posts, military installations, and wherever a community of veterans requests our services. We also offer daily online live classes through YouTube. You can subscribe to those classes HERE.

Comeback Yoga is Committed to Providing Inclusive, Accessible Programming

When you join Comeback Yoga for a class, it is our intention that you feel welcome here. We believe there is value in having all members of our community feel seen, included, and represented. The military community is diverse. We want Comeback Yoga to reflect that diversity in every way, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, faith, age, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, socio-economic status, education, and service branch.

We, as an organization, strive to ensure that any issues of bias or inequity within our organization are identified, addressed, and changed. To that end, we will work to build and sustain the following practices:

  • the purposeful diversification of the board, staff, and teachers;

  • the regular review of policies/practices/class structures/access points to ensure a holistic and inclusive community;

  • the inclusion of diversity training in standard teacher training programs and materials, in order to promote safer classes;

  • the review and update of all content to ensure diverse representation and voices; and

  • the establishment and maintenance of a process for community members to share their experiences/perspectives/concerns, so that these views are heard and considered.

We recognize that this is a complicated and imperfect process, and we remain committed to these goals.

In 2020, the Comeback Yoga Board created a committee to identify and address issues of internal bias and inequity, and established the 5 Point Plan (see bullet points above).

In 2021, we surveyed the Comeback Yoga community, including our students, teachers, board members, and staff. We identified our DEI blindspots and gathered information about where we were as an organization and what to focus on next.

In 2022, we created a Strategic Plan, based on feedback gathered in our survey and internal review process, to advance our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In 2023, we focused our attention on community engagement, as a means to increase diversity through existing relationships. To that end, we launched two campaigns – Battle Buddy and After Class Pass (ACP) - designed to deepen and strengthen authentic, existing relationships with yogis, as well as create opportunities for new community members to join us.
